Prenatal and perinatal history
Prenatal and perinatal history includes the preconceptional period and
the health status of the parents. Maternal factors during pregnancy can lead to
fetal malformations.
Prenatal care, unusual weight gain or loss, hypertension or other
pregnancy problems should be investigated. The mode and duration of delivery,
use of anaesthesia, induction, intrapartum complications and expected and actual
date of delivery should be noted. History of previous pregnancies, deliveries and
fetal loss is important.
A detailed neonatal history is required, including birth weight, Apgar
scores, initiation and success of breastfeeding, and age at discharge
