The alternator used in the RCA
network was developed by Ernst Fredrik Werner Alexanderson, a
Swedish-American engineer and part of a group of pioneers in broadcasting technology. The Grimeton radio station consists of the transmission house, houses for workers as well as the transmission antenna
which is suspended from six towers that look like huge high-voltage
masts (see Figure 0.0). The location of Grimeton in Sweden was chosen because from there a radio connection without any barriers was
possible across the sea to Long Island, USA.
