Battle and treaty of Kadesh:

The Battle of Kadesh is one of the most famous military engagements of the ancient world. The battle represented a departure from the norm in Egyptian warfare and indeed warfare in the Eastern Mediterranean during this period. Previous Egyptian campaigns involved marching through territories attacking one settlement at a time rather than directly facing foes in large scale battles.The most powerful weapon of the time was the chariot and the Battle of Kadesh is known by the use of chariots. Both armies had them. They were used as fast-moving firing platforms which enabled the archers showered the enemy formation with his arrows.There is no consensus on who won the war. The Hittite army had to retreat but the Egyptians could not conquer Kadesh either.The Kadesh treaty is usually accepted as the first written peace treaty. In fact, it is known that there had been treaties before. We even have one from Mesopotamia from a much earlier time. But much of it is lost and it was considered to be signed between two gods of two city states.
